Jakarta is not exactly famous for its art scene. But Museum MACAN has been quietly changing that since it opened in 2017.
It is Indonesia's first and largest museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, and it genuinely holds up to international standards.

MACAN stands for Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara.
It is a privately funded museum in West Jakarta that houses over 800 works from Indonesian businessman Haryanto Adikoesoemo's personal collection, covering both Indonesian and international artists.
Beyond the permanent collection, the museum regularly hosts major traveling exhibitions.
